Sag Harbor Architectural Walking Tour

Saturday, October 1 | 10am-12pm

AIA Peconic invites Members, Allied Members, and guests to explore Sag Harbor through the eyes of an architect.  This walking tour will feature stops at Sag Harbor Cinema, American Hotel, Sen Restaurant, and The Church.  Each building is a fixture in the landscape of the business district with a unique history in purpose and design. This tour offers 2 LUs.

Sag Harbor developed as a working port with origins rooted in the whaling industry and the entire business district is included in the National Register of Historic Places. While the shipping industry no longer relies heavily on this port town, the community is busy nonetheless with boat, car, bike, and pedestrian traffic.  The built environment of Sag Harbor reflects the Village’s various phases throughout its history.  The event will feature stops at four historic buildings that have undergone architectural updates recently with exterior and interior tours led by local architects and building managers.  In addition, discussion about the architectural development of the Village streetscape will explore the tension and balance between old and new considering both the form and function of the buildings that comprise the business district.
