The Bridgehampton Museum is pleased to present an exhibition by renowned artist and curator Bonnie Rychlak in our newly inaugurated contemporary exhibition space located in the renovated tractor barn on our William A Corwith Homestead campus. The exhibition opening will take place on Saturday August 8th from 5-7pm and run through September 6th. This exhibition marks the first solo show by the artist with the Bridgehampton Museum. Rychlak is in the museum’s permanent collection and has been included in two previous group shows at the Nathaniel Rogers House. The exhibition is focused on Rychlak’s encaustic works. The works are hung on the wall as well as placed directly onto the floor. The viewer does not just “view” these pieces, they experience them; they engage with them by walking around them and are forced to peer into hidden cavities that reveal internal patterning and structures.

Following an old established tradition this workshop will use the nude figure with instruction from Bruce Lieberman. The workshop will address fundamental, basic exercises that develop skills and introduce figure drawing techniques in various mediums. Each individual participant will be guided based on their experience and strengths. The critical and aesthetic understanding of a drawing is the foundation for developing a distinct personal artistic vision. A vision shaped by individuality and diversity of expression. Students are asked to bring all their own supplies and drawing mediums such as charcoal, conte, or graphite are requested. A material list will be supplied upon registration. Classes will be limited to 10 students per class. RSVPs are required.

J Brooke’s Debut National Bestselling book, I Can Tell You The Version That Will Make You Take My Side, is a poetry collection documenting one Queer / Trans / Nonbinary person’s evolving place in the world. Brooke will be in thought-provoking or at least hilarious conversation with Eric Lemonides, co-founder and owner of Almond Restaurant, President of Almond Restaurant Group and longtime LGBTQ advocate.

Lush, ripe and delicious: local peaches, melons and more offer us a visual, tactile, and colorful form to observe. The luminous quality of watercolor lends itself to painting delicate and vibrant forms. Examples of watercolor paintings of fruit will be shared and watercolor techniques demonstrated. Bring something from your fruit bowl to share with the class. The color wheel will be explained to help you mix colors to achieve value and intensity as you paint the fruit.

Basic watercolor materials will be available to use in the class. A review of watercolor paints and brushes will be presented for you to acquire.

Be on time. Enjoy learning about the watercolor medium and involve yourself in the creative experience. A class offers the opportunity to learn from numerous styles of painting.

A conversation with artist Brian O’Leary whose work will be featured in our exhibition “Time Revisited” which will be on view from July 11 through August 8, 2026. Jon Corzine (former Governor of New Jersey) and Jay Lohmann (artist and writer) who were both friends of the late Loren Dunlap will also join in on the talk which will be moderated by exhibition curator Lana Jokel.

Directed by brothers Ben and Orson Cummings, the 2017 documentary film “Killer Bees” follows the Bridgehampton High School basketball team in pursuit of a state championship. The team has long been a source of pride, tradition and hope for a community struggling to survive in the middle of The Hamptons, one of the wealthiest communities in America. Join us 10 years after the filming of “Killer Bees” for a screening followed by a Q&A with the directors and some special guests.

Description Learn the ancient technique of encaustic painting which dates to the Greeks. Students will be led by teacher and artist Bonnie Rychlak to learn the basics of this ancient craft that involves using hot wax and pigments to create something of a mixture between painting and sculpting. Through demonstrations, discussion and exploration, students will discover its endless possibilities for making art.

There is a class size limit of 10 students and students will be expected to come to all five classes. All materials will be supplied for this class.

Rome was founded in or around 752 BCE. After a series of kings, in 509 BCE, the monarchy was overthrown and replaced by a republic. The republic provided for the election of government officials and a senate. But the struggle for power between the upper class and the ordinary people was a fire that never went out. The first century BCE was a violent period, marked by civil wars, foreign wars, an attempt to overthrow the government in 63 BCE, the ascent of Caesar as Dictator for Life, and finally, Caesar’s assassination. But Caesar’s assassins didn’t have a plan for the aftermath, and a new civil war followed, involving such notable personalities as Augustus (Caesar’s adopted son), Marc Antony, Cleopatra, Cicero, and Brutus. Augustus emerged victorious but the republic was dead, replaced by the reign of Emperors. This is how it happened.
