Weather permitting, EHTPS conducts weekly Tuesday morning maintenance hikes, preparing for other hikes on our schedule and keeping as much trail as possible clear and blazed. No experience necessary, and new volunteers are always welcome. Bring a lopper, trimmer, or handsaw if available. Duration: App. 2 hours.

Thursday September 3, 2026, at 10 AM. The Sea Spray Inn, East Hampton. (4 miles)

Off a secluded path near Main Beach once stood the Sea Spray Inn, a grand, rambling symbol of summer, until a February 1978 fire burned it to the ground. The Sea Spray was a private home, then an Inn on Main Street, then moved to the dunes in 1902 as a private home before reopening as a hotel. We’ll talk about all that and more, on the site where the Sea Spray Cottages remain. Duration: App. 2 hours. Meet 10 AM at Lumber Lane parking lot 1, East Hampton.

Baby strollers, tricycles, wheelchairs and other wheeled vehicles are more than welcome on this smoothly paved circuit of Buckskill Meadow Preserve. We will learn about leaves, rocks, worms that we spot along the way. We’ll pass the spooky Pine Graveyard, where hundreds of white pines have fallen. Bring bottles of water and/or sippy cups. Saturday September 19, 2026, at 10 AM. Grace Estate Historic Hike (5 miles)

Learn about the history of East Hampton’s Northwest Woods, site of the “Deserted Village of Northwest.” We’ll be hiking in the Grassy Hollow Preserve, as well as the Grace Estate. We will visit the Van Scoy graveyard and historic site and Kirk’s Place on the shore of Northwest Harbor. Meet at the Northwest Schoolhouse plaque, Northwest Road, ¼ mile south of Alewife Brook Road. Alewives are fish that breed in fresh water. Come take a walk with Lee and learn all about them. Meet at the School House plaque, one quarter mile west of Alewife Brook Rd. and Northwest Rd. Bring tick protection. Duration: app. 90 minutes, easy pace.

Saturday September 26, 2026, at 10 AM. Block Island Sound Beach Walk, Montauk (4 miles)

Join us for a tick-free (yes, it is still tick season) bay beach walk along Block Island Sound. It is a lovely but challenging beach with gravel rocks, soft sand, and typically an uneven surface. On a clear day you can see Fisher’s Island, the Rhode Island mainland and Block Island. Because it is an out-and-back beach walk, you may walk at your own pace as well as shorten or lengthen the distance. Meet at Gin Beach, at the end of East Lake Drive off of Rt. 27, several miles east of Montauk Village. (It’s the next left turn east of South Lake Drive.) Duration: app. 2 hours. Town of East Hampton beach parking permit required.

Thursday September 17, 2026, at 9:45 AM. The Ladies Village Improvement Society of East Hampton (1.75 miles)

The LVIS is a true community treasure enhancing the beauty of East Hampton in countless ways. Join this walk and tour of two of their iconic sites: the grounds of their Main Street property, including the newly renovated sunken garden, followed by a walk through town to the Village Nature Trail and Wildlife Sanctuary – ending at the duck pond. At each location we will be met by the chair of the respective LVIS committee for a detailed discussion of their efforts at these locations. Duration: app. 2 hours. Park in the long term parking lot and meet at 9:45 AM at the front door of LVIS headquarters 95 Main Street, East Hampton.
