Tuesdays, 9:00 AM. Maintenance Hikes (1 – 3 miles)
Weather permitting, EHTPS conducts weekly Tuesday morning maintenance hikes, preparing for other hikes on our schedule and keeping as much trail as possible clear and blazed. No experience necessary, and new volunteers are always welcome. Bring a lopper, trimmer, or handsaw if available. For information, ehtps@outlook.com to sign up for the weekly email.

Saturday December 6, 2025, at 10 AM – Stony Hill, Amagansett Hike (4-5 miles)
Join us for this hike through the farm fields of Peconic Land Trust’s Deborah Ann Light Preserve and onward into the Stony Hill Woods, most of which is also owned by Peconic Land Trust. We will hike as far as Nancy’s Rock before we swing back for home on the de Cuevas Trail, named for the family that preserved most of the Stony Hill Woods. Meet at 10 AM on road shoulder of Abraham’s Path, about 1/4 mile north of Town Lane, Amagansett. Distance: 4 to 5 Miles; moderate pace; hilly in places. Bring snacks, liquids & tick protection. Sunday December 7, 2025, at 10 AM. Napeague to Montauk (10 miles)
This is an experiment to see if anyone is interested in the occasional hike that’s longer and brisker than usual. We will start at Iodine Beach on the eastern shore of Napeague Harbor. We will hike five miles east to the high bluffs around Quincetree Landing, then come back the same way. Somewhat hilly. Great views of Gardiner’s Island and the Block Island Sound. Meet at 10 AM in the parking lot at the north end of Napeague Harbor Road (off Route 27). Bring lunch and liquids. Please share this announcement with anyone you know who is up for an adventure! Saturday December 13, 2025, at 3 PM. Montauk Downs Golf Course Hike. (3.5+miles) For the first time EHTPS and New York State Parks are providing an opportunity for a hike on the Montauk Downs golf course. The course is normally closed to the non-golfing public. Nestled in the rolling terrain of North Neck in Montauk, the course contains wetlands, numerous trees and views of Lake Montauk. New York State is providing a guide for the hike. Saturday December 20, 2025, at 10 AM. Napeague State Park, Amagansett. (2.5 miles)
Join us for a relaxed-pace hike at Napeague State Park that features a pitch pine forest, oak and holly trees, a meadow, and dunes, as well as a walk along Gardiners Bay, where you have wonderful views of Gardiner’s Island and other coastline. You’ll see the remains of portions of the old Menhaden Fish Factory and more. Meet at the State parking lot on Cranberry Hole Road across from Napeague Meadow Road off Rt. 27, just west of The Lobster Roll (a.k.a. LUNCH). Despite this being a relatively short and totally flat hike, it does include soft sand on portions of the trail and a sandy and rocky bay beach that we’ll be walking on as well. Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 10 AM. Chatfield’s Hole, East Hampton (3 miles)
Named after an early East Hampton settler, Chatfield’s Hole is a beautiful glacial kettle hole. To reach the freshwater wetlands, we will follow the Northwest Path enjoying an oak forest sprinkled with pitch pines and white pines. One of the town’s first open-space land acquisitions for preservation and public use in 1976. One of the town’s first trails cut and formally opened in 1989. Meet at the kiosk parking area on Route 114 at the intersection of Edward’s Hole Rd in East Hampton (2 miles north of Stephen Hands Path). Bring liquids. Thursday, January 1, 2026, at 10 AM. Hither Woods New Year’s Day Hike. (7.5 miles)
For the 37th Consecutive Year hike the trails of the magnificent Hither Woods to ring in the New Year! We will hike past Split Rock, the Devil’s Cradle, Ram Level, the Lost Boulder, and of course the spectacular coastline that is the northern boundary of Hither Woods. Meet at 10:00 a.m. at Hither Hills Overlook (West Overlook), north side of Route 27, Montauk. Distance: 7.5 miles, moderate pace with some hills. Bring lunch & liquids.
