“In the midst of my career as an elementary teacher I took a course called Art for Teachers. I particularly liked the segment on watercolor. After retiring, I began to paint more and more, mostly trying to copy things I saw on YouTube. My current original series is called Roadwork. It began as I noticed interesting patterns created by cracks in the road. I took pictures and was able to transfer the image onto watercolor paper. Sometimes the patterns suggested recognizable things, sometimes they were interesting on their own.” – J.W. Hiney
