East End Arts & Humanities Council, Inc. (EEAC) presents its annual celebration of community and creativity with the MOSAIC30 Festival on May 31, 2026 from 12:00pm and 5:00pm at the Riverhead Town Hall Campus, between West 2nd Street and Railroad Ave. Rain date is June 7, 2026.

Since 1996, the MOSAIC Festival features chalk street art by artists and amateurs, inspired by the Italian Il Madonnari Street Painting Festival, which used a form of chalk to create art in the streets back in the 16th Century. This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of “The Most Colorful Day of the Year,” and serendipitously aligns with the America250 anniversary. To accompany the creativity of the day’s artists, visitors enjoy live music, local artisan and business vendors, food trucks, beverage vendors, games and projects for kids, community art projects, and other family-friendly entertainment. This year’s festival has been relocated from E. Main Street to the Riverhead Town Campus due to the temporary location of East End Arts Council headquarters.

The event remains free and is open and accessible for people of all ages and abilities thanks to the support of the Suffolk County Department of Economic Development & Planning and the Town of Riverhead. MOSAIC30 sponsors include the Riverhead Business Improvement District, Riverhead Building Supply, Basso & Guida, Right Now Marketing, Woolworth Apartments, Get Arty, Heatherwood, Atlantis Marine World, Shelter Island Home Care, Times Review Media, Darinka Signs, and Maggio Environmental.

This year’s festival activities include an interactive silk screening merch table, drum circle with Bassanio Clark, Riverhead Free Library’s SLED, a chill zone courtesy of RISE Life Services, Kidz Course in the courtyard alongside other kid-friendly activities provided by the Riverhead Lions Club, live portraits by Gary Long, live poetry with All One Voice, tarot card readings with Peter Reilly, a community America250 art project with fiber artist Sherry Davis, and more. Sassy Sips provides beer and wine, and food vendors include Hines, Ben & Jerry’s Riverhead, Kona Ice, Nice Buns, Bad Smoothies, The Sugar Cart, and Tropical Productions. Visitors can shop locally from over 30 artisan and retail vendors.

The MOSAIC30 Festival includes a $500 prize for the “Best in Fest” chalk art piece, along with honorable mention prizes, determined by a panel of judges. Artist “squares” can be purchased online starting at $25 or onsite at the festival. A limited amount of wall space is available for art making, so those who need to work vertically can be included.

The MOSAIC30 Festival kicks off at noon, as the sponsored chalk artists begin their 8’ x 8’ pieces alongside the 4’ x 6’ street and wall square artists. Live entertainment is provided by EEAC students and bands. Remarks by Supervisor Jerry Halpin, Councilwoman Denise Merrifield, EEAC Board President Frank Lentini, and others take place at the main stage at 2:00pm. The “Best in Fest” winners will be announced at approximately 4:15pm.
