Meet EEA’s

Spotlight Student & Featured Teacher,

Andrea Peralta & Paolo Bartolani!

Andrea Peralta started at East End Arts in the fall of 2019. Her energy and determination was obvious as she walked through our doors even at only 8 years old. She knew this is where she wanted to be, and playing the piano is what she wanted to do. Her family had a beautiful piano at home, which her mom, Alma, actually bought because it was pretty though she always knew in the back of her mind that someday this beautiful instrument would serve a greater purpose. Alma mentioned lessons to Andrea, and she was all in, promising it wasn’t just a passing thing. Cautiously, Alma signed Andrea up for a few lessons at EEA to start. Like any parent, she was not sure that Andrea understood how much time and effort it would take to learn and play an instrument, and she worried her daughter would get discouraged or bored. Well, Andrea has never looked back, and those few lessons turned into years.

Andrea never lets challenging times of learning or even a pandemic interfere with her love for playing the piano. She kept up with her lessons virtually and was first one through our doors when we were able to resume in-person lessons safely and responsibly. Andrea is always present with the most infectious smile that even a mask can’t hide.

Paolo Bartolani is the ultimate professional pianist, and prior to the pandemic one could always catch him playing at any one of the many North Fork venues. He now teaches piano to all ages for East End Arts School and is proud to say his children also take lessons at the school in piano and violin!

As pianist, musicologist and music manager, Paolo likes to work in both classical and contemporary music. He graduated in 1989 from the Santa Cecilia Music Conservatory in Rome (Italy) where he studied with Eduardo Hubert. After graduation he continued studies with Charles Rosen, György Sándor and Andor Foldes. He also studied French piano repertoire with Germaine Mounier at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. In 1994, he received his Master in Musicology of the 20th century under the direction of Hugues Dufourt at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in collaboration with IRCAM / Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Paolo performs as a soloist and also as a member of chamber ensembles in Europe and United States. He has been the General Coordinator of Music Up Close Network at Santa Cecilia National Academy in Rome. This Network includes seven European orchestras who promote new orchestral works and support a new generation of musicians to connect with young audiences.

He founded the Rites of Spring Music Fest in 2016 to promote classical and contemporary music on the North Fork of Long Island, which combines music, history and the natural environment. The Festival currently is a non-profit organization 501c3 and he is the Artistic & Executive Director of the Festival. “Classical music is often thought of as boring. We have been working to change that perception by building a connection with the audience and having each concert be site specific and tailored to the location.”

Paolo believes that as an artist and music professional, our essential work is to help to provide inspiration, solace and sense of connection and meaning. The most important goal in offering piano lessons is fostering an enjoyment for music that lasts a lifetime.
———————–
“I have been teaching piano for over 30 years and as a piano teacher, I learned a lot from my students to be versatile, adaptable, creative, confident.”
———————–
Paolo teaches all ages as he strongly feels we can enjoy music at any stage of our lives. “It’s a chance to be creative, feel accomplished for mastering new skills, connecting with yourself and others and for sheer pleasure itself.”
———————–
Paolo is thrilled to be teaching our student spotlight of the month, Andrea Peralta. Andrea is always interested in learning new music and it is a joy to teach her. She is always attentive and happy to play piano for her enjoyment.
