Collaging and Mixed Media – Using Different Styles, ages 8+

Each week we will do a different project for example; creating collage pieces by using the style of Bricolage. Bricolage is a French word roughly meaning ‘do-it-yourself.’

Landscapes with Mixed Media – Backyard Beauty, ages 8+
—–
You will create different mixed media landscape pieces based on different styles.
For example; the art style of Frottage. Frottage is the technique or process of taking a rubbing from an uneven surface to form the basis of a work of art.

Trash into Trees ages 11+
—–
Students will be turning someone else’s trash into their treasure! Let’s clean up our environment! You will collect used materials such as cans, bottles, paper towel rolls, bottle caps, newspapers, can tabs, wire, etc. Then using paper mache combine all elements to create trees.

Create a Friendly Monster, ages 8+

Our first week we will create a friendly Monster Face!
Students will utilize the great outdoors to collect objects from nature prior to class. Leaves, flowers, sticks, pebbles any natural objects. Combining art materials and our found objects we will make our friendly monster faces.

Mixed Media Inspired by Artists, ages 8+

Mixed Media pieces inspired by different artists. You will look at many different artists and discover what inspired their work and the different processes they used. The projects will reflect the style of the artist, while being inspired by the creativity of the child/student.

Draw with Me – Step by Step, ages 4+

This is a step by step class for our youngest artists. They will learn to draw figures like: Lightning McQueen from Cars!; My Little Pony! So many characters that your kids will recognize and want to draw. They will love doing this and imagine the time it would free up for our busy moms and dads.

Collaging and Painting Landscapes, ages 8+

Let’s create our own landscape designs! You will be collecting pictures of landforms, flowers, trees, etc. We will paste them together into our own patchwork scenes. You can choose to make it naturalistic or surreal. How can you make the landscape look natural or realistic?

Drawing Anime and Manga Characters, ages 10+

Everyone loves drawing Anime and Manga. Use these characters as a starting point, and then make the characters your own. Create a story with multiple characters.

Recycling vs. Up-cycling Workshop, ages 11+
—–
Most recycled goods eventually end up in the trash for various reasons. Wouldn’t it be better to take those items and transform them into something that is permanent and more valuable? In this workshop, students will forage through the recycling you have at home to find items that they can convert into sculptures, which removes them from circulation. Upcycling is better for the environment than simply recycling items back into what became trash in the first place.

For this workshop, students will explore shapes that tessellate and ones that do not. They will use the ones that tessellate and alter them to make more interesting shapes that still tile without spaces or overlaps. Then, they will illustrate the shape and fill a page with the illustrated tessellation patterns. This can be done on paper, or the tessellation can be completed on the computer.

ages 11+

Comic Books tell stories based on a concept called sequential visual storytelling or SVS. In this workshop, students will explore how to use SVS to tell an interesting story about the environment. Some of the concepts they will learn about include establishing shots, how panels work, what to include and what to leave out, when and how to use words, sound words, using camera angles and location, and tricks for leading the reader’s eye through the story in the correct sequence. Students will choose their own comic book style of art, and if they don’t know what style they like, I will give them some resources for trying various styles so they can figure what works best with their artistic strengths.

Animation Art – The Environment, ages 11+
—–
In this workshop, students will learn about the history of animation. While learning about the various techniques, they will be learning how to make flipbook, zoetrope, stop-motion, 2-dimensional digital, and 3-dimensional digital animations. Students will make a short animation making a statement about climate change or another environmental issue about which they would like to raise public awareness.

Drawing Backwards (reduction art), ages 11+
—–
In this workshop, students will be using dark paper and then lightening areas to bring out the lighter values forcing them to think about whole images rather than the edges. Some of the reductive art methods that students will use will be charcoal, scratchboard, white/colored chalk on black paper, and monotype printmaking to draw various fruits and vegetable still-life images.
