Our Historic Sites and Museums are Reopening!

Thanks to generous support from Sotheby’s International Realty, the East Hampton Historical Society is now able to offer free admission to visit our historic sites! Starting May 20, our hours of operation are Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 3pm. You can learn about fishing and whaling at the Marine Museum, find artistic inspiration at the Moran Studio, and relive the American Revolution at Mulford Farm. For additional details, check out the “Visit” page on our website.

Bonac: Then & Now – Opening May 13 at Clinton Academy

Groups of artists have exhibited their work at Clinton Academy since the 1880s and when the Historical Society was founded 100 years ago, one of its primary roles was to operate a gallery for East Hampton artists. As part of our Centennial celebration this month, we’re thrilled to host Bonac Then and Now: EH High School Student & Alumni Art Show in collaboration with the East Hampton Arts Council.

The exhibition will be on view at Clinton Academy from May 13 through May 22 with an Artist Reception on May 13.

Historical Walking Tours start Friday, May 20

Learn about East Hampton and how Main Street has changed over time. Every Friday, specially-trained educators will take you inside Clinton Academy and the Town House and help you see East Hampton in new and different ways. We’re thrilled to have Hugh King, Historic Site Manager for the Village of East Hampton and Steve Long, Director of the Historical Society lead the year’s inaugural walking tour on May 20.

Arrive at Clinton Academy, 151 Main Street by 5:45pm so that the tour can begin promptly at 6pm. Be aware that only street parking is available. Guests will be expected to climb steps and navigate uneven, grassy ground. Wear comfortable shoes! If you have any questions, please contact the Historical Society’s offices.

Marine Explorers Program 

—————

Marine Explorers is a hands-on educational program for children ages 6 to 15 to explore maritime history, environmental studies, and water safety. Each morning, kids will explore cultural and maritime history and traditional craftsmanship at the Marine Museum using woodworking tools and paint to create their own works of art. Over the course of the week, they’ll discover the excitement of taking a creative idea from concept to fully executed piece.

After woodworking, touring the marine museum, and creating art, students will head to Atlantic Avenue Beach in the afternoon to enjoy the water and beach activities while learning about marine science and water safety.

Program staff are certified educators and water safety instructors, as well as American Red Cross trained open water lifeguards. The staff also includes a level-one surf/ocean lifeguard.
