Spring/Early Summer Programs and Workshops

Floral Design Made Easy

April 27th, 10AM-12PM
in the Hudson House
Join instructor, Diane Schwindt, in learning the art of floral design! Participants will learn the tricks of the trade such as; choosing the appropriate plant materials, how to incorporate store bought flowers, and add in elements of surprise! Come join us for this first time, two hour workshop and complete a beautiful floral arrangement to bring home!

 Spring Pysanka Workshops

May 5th, 1-4PM
in the Hudson House
The Spring egg painting workshops, lead by instructor Hannah Ritter, will feature floral designs based on traditional motifs. Several designs and color variations will be presented, and dye color choices will be available.
Sessions will be suitable for both beginners and experienced eggers.
Members: $40 | Non-Members: $50

Spring Tree Embroidery

June 1st, 10AM – 1PM
in the Hudson House
Join us for a relaxing day of creating.
Instructor, Connie Klos, will teach students how to embroider the chain stitch, outline stitch and french knot to create this mini Spring scene.
The finished project will be suitable for framing in a 4 X 4 or larger frame.

Yarn by YOU!

June 8th, 10AM-2PM
in the Hudson House
Create your own custom-colored skein of yarn, the rainbow is your limit! Fiber artist and expert dyer, Adele from Looliemom Fiber Arts, will guide you through multiple dying techniques including speckles and stripes. Your finished yarn will be uniquely YOU!

Learn to Spin

June 9th, 12-4PM
in the Hudson House
Knitters, crocheters, weavers…we all use and love yarn! This is your chance to learn about the world of spinning raw fibers into usable yarn.
Adele from Looliemom Fiber Arts will demonstrate different spinning techniques as well as guide you in using a simple drop spindle and niddy noddy to create your own hand-spun skein of yarn.

Wool Drying Basket

June 15th, 10AM-3PM
Join instructor, Barbara Chuvalas, in making this beautiful Wool Drying Basket! This basket was used historically for just that, drying fleece! The basket has legs so that air could circulate through the wool. Side handles help carry the basket & wool. This is an all-over twill pattern.

Painting on a Silk Scarf

June 22nd, 10AM-12PM
in Naugles Barn
Join instructor, Vivien Pollack, to learn how to change fabric into a beautiful piece of art! This class will include two different methods of silk painting! Silk painting produces beautiful results; no previous art background necessary! For experienced artists, this is an exciting new medium to explore which allows creative freedom.

Bead Weaving on a Loom Intensive

June 22nd, 10AM – 4PM
in the Hudson House
Learn to make exquisite designs using the most delicate of beads. The possibilities for creativity are endless. You will learn to set up and warp your very own bead loom as well as learn the basics of loom weaving and will produce a weaving that can then be made into a piece of jewelry or used as a decorative element in another application.

Beaded Bezel Shell

June 23rd, 10AM – 4PM
in the Hudson House
Join instructor, Janice Gryzb, for a new workshop! In this class, students will learn to bead a bezel to surround a shell and will create a beautiful pendant. Beading techniques explored include the brick stitch and peyote stitch, as well as, decorative finishing stitches

Spring Bird Walk

Mary Laura Lamont, local naturalist and birding expert, will lead the search for through the woods and fields of Hallockville and Hallock State Park Preserve. Bring binoculars, appropriate apparel, and sturdy footwear.

10th Annual Long Island

Fleece & Fiber Fair 

May 18th & 19th 10AM-4PM
The Long Island Fleece & Fiber Fair is the first in the region to bring together the diversity of fiber arts activities!
Visitors will see and learn how local artisans craft wool and other animal fiber into beautiful finished pieces of clothing and art.
The fair provides two fun-filled days of demonstrations and hands-on learning that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Visit both days for a variety of demonstrations, workshops and local artisans selling their handmade supplies and products!

Long Island Fleece & Fiber Fair Fashion Show!

Calling all Knitters, Crocheters, and Weavers! Come show off your beautiful creations at our first ever fashion show! Here is your chance to showcase some of your handmade garments, such as; skirts, sweaters, dresses, shawls, and jackets. There is no entry fee and you will receive free admission to the fair!
