In 1911, two siblings from a prominent midwestern family moved to Plum Island. Major Benjamin Koehler took command of Fort Terry, and his younger sister, Sophia, started the post’s Sunday school. All seemed to be going well until Ben’s sudden arrest for “immoral conduct.” Was the commander leading a double life, or was he the victim of a terrible plot? Readers will learn the evidence, encounter famous figures such as Theodore Roosevelt in little-known situations, and see how changing standards of masculinity in the early 1900s contributed to cultural polarization that continues today.

Registrants also receive a gift certificate for a cup of Hampton Coffee.
