Hallockville Museum Farm invites the public to a special evening presentation, “The Natural Secrets of Long Island” with acclaimed naturalist John Turner, on Thursday, October 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the historic Naugles Barn (6038 Sound Avenue, Riverhead, NY).
In this engaging program, Turner will explore the remarkable plants, animals, and natural landscapes that make Long Island such a unique and treasured place. From coastal habitats and forests to the hidden ecological wonders of our backyards, this talk will deepen appreciation for the island’s extraordinary biodiversity and natural beauty.

John Turner has been an environmental educator and advocate for nearly 50 years. He has delivered hundreds of talks and led countless nature walks on topics spanning natural history, conservation, and environmental protection. His articles have appeared in publications such as Defenders, Birder’s World, Long Island Forum, Bird Watcher’s Digest, Networking Magazine, and The Conservationist.
Turner is also the author of “Exploring the Other Island: A Seasonal Nature Guide to Long Island” (2nd Edition), a widely read guide for those interested in discovering Long Island’s wild side. A co-founder of the Long Island Pine Barrens Society, Turner has dedicated his career to advocating for the protection of Long Island’s drinking water and open spaces. He currently serves as a Senior Policy Advisor to Seatuck Environmental Association.
