| About the Organization:
Established in 1991, Long Island Traditions is a cultural arts nonprofit dedicated to promoting, supporting, and documenting the arts and lifeways of the many communities who live on Long Island. Our program areas include singing, dance, and storytelling as well as costume and craft; educating and preserving architectural sites that tell the story of the people who build and maintain them; culturally responsive school programs in partnership with teaching artists; and grants to individual artists who are building on ancestral knowledge to create new work about life in their unique place and time.
About the Role:
LI Traditions is seeking a responsible, organized, and motivated —Programs Support Admin— to support our Executive Director and Program Manager. This is a mostly remote position, with required availability for 1–2 in-person events per month. Weekly Hours (5). Events are always on Long Island, mostly Nassau County.
This role is ideal for someone interested in cultural arts, maritime culture, and nonprofit work, and offers strong potential to grow with a small, mission-driven organization. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit administration, arts programming, and cultural communications, while working closely with a small team and growing into increased responsibility over a short period of time.
Primary Responsibilities/Duties:
- Provide administrative support (scheduling, correspondence, filing)
- Assist with school and community programs (artist coordination, reminders)
- Prepare and mail newsletters, contracts, and merchandise
- Support website updates and social media announcements
- Draft press releases and maintain donors list
- Respond to inquiries from educators, members, and the public
- Assist with grant preparation and audience engagement tracking
- Provide on-site event support as needed (1 or 2 x per month)
Skills & Qualifications
- Highly reliable, organized, and detail-oriented
- Strong communication skills
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office and basic website/social media updates
- Able to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Genuine interest in folk arts, maritime culture, and cultural heritage
- Experience in nonprofits and/or arts & culture preferred
- Background in arts, folklore, or history is a plus
- Must have access to a reliable vehicle
Compensation:
- $25/hour
- Flexible hybrid schedule
