Let There Be Light!

This exhibit celebrates the restoration of period gas and early electric lighting fixtures at Meadow Croft.  The first part of the exhibit focuses on early electric lighting, spanning the years 1879 to 1899.  The second part of the exhibit features the three forms of lighting used at Meadow Croft from 1900-1915: kerosene, gas, and electric. In addition, fans, toy trains, and many other early electric items are included. Meadow Croft is located at 299 Middle Road, Sayville, NY 11782.

Silverbrook Art Glass Works (1943-1976)

Fleeing their native Czechoslovakia in 1937 in fear of a Hitler invasion, the Kreutz brothers established a glassworks company on Flanders Road in Riverhead. Come witness over 30 years of hand-blown glassware made by these fifth-generation glassblowers in our History in the Hall display cases.

Our museum – housed in “The Historic Baggage & Freight Station” – has an outstanding collection of items associated with the LIRR from the earliest days to modern times.  Of special interest is the extensive “HO Layout” depicting Greenport during the ‘Age of Steam’ as well as a separate section that presents the ‘Riverhead Depot’ as it exists today. 

Make it a point to visit our recently refurbished – ‘Caboose #14’.
