A garden tour in late October? With some trepidation, we had scheduled one last spring with the Memphis Garden Club, and Madoo really delivered. The striated eggplants in the Potager still clung to their branches under cerulean skies, and the pineapple sage (as seen in the background) put on a spectacular show, with the Foster farm fields still shimmering a deep green in the distance.
A fragrant sage symbolizing a traditional sign of welcome: I can’t imagine a more fitting reminder of the opening of Madoo’s brand-new Welcome Center, dedicated in honor of our dear friend Jane Iselin. We are deeply grateful to the donors who contributed to the capital campaign for the Welcome Center and to those who worked on the project, including architect Kathrine McCoy, LaGuardia Design Group, and the crews at Greg D’Angelo Construction and Whitmore’s. Not only did they seamlessly integrate the new building into the landscape, but we now have an entrance to the garden that’s accessible to all.
Madoo is, and always has been, a work in progress, and your generous gifts help to keep it running smoothly, whether it’s spring weeding and fall pruning or art exhibitions and children’s programming. This holiday season, please consider supporting Madoo and its ongoing needs:
• $500: The cost to replant the potager with cardoons, dahlias, herbs, potatoes and more!
• $3,500: the cost to hand-prune our signature ginkgo grove each spring
• $20,000: the cost to renovate the roses sûr chaine feature adjacent to the Summer Lawn
• $30,000: the cost to rebuild and replant the Rosemary Verey–inspired laburnum arbor
