Rooted in an enduring devotion to dance, choreographer Jodi Melnick presents an evening of luminous performance in the gardens of the Madoo Conservancy.

Following her Together with an exceptional ensemble of dancers, including New York City Ballet principals Sara Mearns and Taylor Stanley, she reimagines past and present works, layered fragments interrupted and transformed into this new assemblage. Weaving her singular postmodern sensibility through the landscape, the choreography is shaped as much by place as by the performers themselves for an experience that is both intimate and expansive.

Each performance is followed by a wine reception in the garden.

Robert Storr: Strata

The Madoo Conservancy is pleased to present Robert Storr: Strata, an exhibition of the artist’s paintings on view through August 2, 2026, in the Summer Studio. Madoo is open to the public by appointment from Thursdays through Sundays from 12 to 4 PM.

The striking geometric works created in the past two years follow Storr’s exploration of shape and color. Depicting squares and rectangles, these works are nevertheless free of classical symmetrical references. A majority of the works are 12 inches in height, lending them a very linear quality, veering toward the musical.

The images’ sharpness dissipates upon closer inspection of Storr’s delicate brushwork. Working with Flashe, a vinyl paint on muslin wrapped board, creates a super smooth surface and sharp edges that adds to the crispness of the paintings.

Robert Storr (b. 1949) received his B.A. at Swarthmore College in 1972 and his MFA in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1978. He attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. His work has been widely exhibited in New York, Boston, Seattle, Chicago, and Paris and is in the collections of the Nelson Atkins Museum, Kansas City, the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, The Mead Art Museum, Amherst College, the Museum of Modern Art, and many other institutions.

Storr was a curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art for twelve years; was the first American to serve as the Director of Visual Arts of the Venice Biennale in 2007; and was previously Dean of the Yale School of Art for ten years. Storr has authored major texts on many artists, including Philip Guston, Louise Bourgeois, Gerhard Richter, among others. He is the recipient of five honorary doctorates and awards from organizations including the International Association of Art Critics and the Archives of American Art. In 2000, he was made Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture and was later promoted to Officier of the same order.
