Fall registration is open! Many of your favorite art instructors are back starting this September with live virtual art classes! Enjoy these classes and more in the comfort of your home in small, intimate interactive Zoom sessions with instructors from The Manes Center.

Art After School

Begins Wednesday,

October 7

Modeled after our popular, sold-out Summer Art Lab, the Museum is excited to offer Art After School: Drawing & Painting. Led by our educator Katie and geared for ages 7 to 10, this virtual program is focused on developing drawing and painting skills. With five different project tutorials inspired by contemporary and historical artists, we will explore essential ideas of composition, color mixing, artist’s choice and observational drawing.

Painting Classes

There’s still room in our Wednesday and Friday classes

We are introducing new painting classes designed for easy set-up and clean-up in any room of your home. Try something new and give abstract painting a whirl on Wednesdays. We also offer watercolor sessions throughout the week to accommodate different skill levels and interests.

Drawing Classes

This Thursday and Friday

Created for beginners, our Fear-Free Drawing class introduces new artists to the fundamentals of observational drawing. Learn the foundations before moving on to our Still-Life Drawing class. For those more experienced at drawing, experience drawing with pen combined with watercolor in Friday’s Watercolor and Pen class.

High School Artists

Beginning soon!

A perfect class for 9th and 10th grade students, our Tuesday Evening High School Drawing provides teens with the necessary skills and foundation needed for today’s growing creative fields. For the more advanced students, join us for Portfolio Prep on Thursday evenings, both taught by local college art professor and admissions counselor, Robyn Cooper.

NCMA’s Art of Conversation

A Virtual Program for Adults with Alzheimer’s and Dementia

2:30 – 3:30 pm

A virtual program for adults with  Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Museum Educator, Pam Koehler, facilitates an inquiry-based art program encouraging open discussion and personal reflection. Each session is unique with changing themes. Each session is limited to 12 people.

Early Morning Access Program for Adults

9:45 – 10:45 am

An in-person program at the Museum for teens and young adults on the autism spectrum (Autism Spectrum Disorder) ages 13–23, to be accompanied by a parent or care partner. Led by an art therapist, each session will take its’ inspiration from the art on view in the galleries.

Yoga in the Garden

Saturdays

9:30 – 10:30 am

Yoga instructor, Museum Educator and artist Samantha Hofsiss will guide participants through breathing, movement and mindfulness practices to alleviate stress and find peace of mind. Samantha will utilize her skills as an artist and a seasoned yoga practitioner to engage people in beginner exercises designed to focus the mind and awaken your inner creativity.

Little Explorers

Outdoor exploration for ages 2-5 and their adult companion

We believe in the benefits of art, nature, wonder and discovery for our littlest friends at the Museum! Join us for a new 45-minute outdoor program with museum educator and toddler mom Katie, who will guide toddlers and children aged 2–5 with their grown-ups around the museum grounds. We’ll explore a new section of the grounds each Tuesday, discovering one of the museum’s sculptures and incorporating nature, stories and movement.

The blue. Concert

Saturday, October 3
3 pm

A live outdoor concert on the great lawn. Through the network of the Long Island Composers’ Alliance, this concert marks the world debut of new pieces written in response to works in the exhibition. Like Mussorgsky’s endlessly charming “Pictures at an Exhibition,” this path-breaking project turns the visual stimuli of an art show into a musical offering.

Autumn Mindfulness Sculpture Stroll

Thursday, October 8

5:30 pm

Join Laura Lynch and Katie Aragon of the Museum’s Education Department for an hour of observation and reflection as we gather together for a mindful walk through the Museum’s outdoor Sculpture Park. Each stop on the tour will also delve into the choices, inspirations and materials of the artists and their sculptures.
