Modigliani and the Modern Portrait

“A rare showing on Long Island of groundbreaking works” – Newsday

See Amedeo Modiglaini’s masterworks along with artworks by his contemporaries such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Edvard Munch. Modigliani’s enduring influence on artists even in our own time is shown in a selection of Contemporary works by such important figures as David Hockney, Eric Fischl, Alex Katz and more. The exhibition was curated by Dr. Kenneth Wayne, founder of The Modigliani Project, which authenticates paintings and drawings. Two of the works in the show were recently verified as authentic!

Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919), Paysage, c. 1896-1900

Amedeo Modigliani, Portrait of a Woman, 1919.

Opening November 18

Our Gilded Age

The Gilded Age, an era of economic prosperity and conspicuous consumption had secret flaws, including widespread corruption and wealth disparity. Drawing upon the local history of Long Island, the exhibition will include paintings and pastels by John Singer Sargent, William Merritt Chase, Louis Comfort Tiffany and James McNeill Whistler among others, plus photographs, fashion, decorative arts, manuscripts and other historic memorabilia. Most importantly, our “Upstairs Downstairs” approach to the life of a country house, including our own Gilded Age mansion, will bring to life not only the storied excesses for which the era was infamous, but also the real lives of the many individuals who maintained such estates.
