Devoted to the way that Modigliani powerfully re-defined the art of portraiture, the show includes his masterworks along with paintings, drawings, photographs and sculpture by his Parisian contemporaries (Picasso, Matisse, Laurencin, Giacometti, Gonzalez, Lartigue, Lachaise). Modigliani’s enduring influence on artists even in our own time is shown in a selection of Contemporary paintings by such important figures as David Hockney, Eric Fischl, Alex Katz, Andy Warhol, Ellsworth Kelly and others.

The New Kiosk

Max Laible, a member of Boy Scout Troop 205 in Syosset, completed this striking new addition to the Museum’s grounds as part of his Eagle Scout project. He was responsible for planning, designing, fundraising, purchasing building materials and finally planting the native plants and grasses, a feat of teamwork and coordination that enlisted 30 people working for a total of 230 hours.

The fence and kiosk open a welcoming entrance to a re-vitalized corner of the property, a rarely visited expanse of 10 acres of rolling fields that are being restored to native grassland thanks to funding from the Long Island Sound Studies program. The many benefits of cultivating this healthy habitat attract birds, bees, and pollinators. The project is also designed to improve the health of the groundwater that feeds into Hempstead Harbor.  Keep an eye on this fascinating and large-scale scheme. More native plants and grasses will be added by the North Country Garden Club in the fall. We are proud and excited to host this significant initiative, an active and expertly planned effort

to improve the land we love so dearly.

Mansion Tours

A guided history tour of our Neo-Georgian, Gold Coast mansion, that was once the home of the Frick family from 1919–1965. See architectural details, hidden doors, old photographs, and hear stories reflecting the family’s life here in the early 20th century.

First Sunday Family Gallery Tours

Exploring the art in our galleries as a family is a unique opportunity to spend time together. The shared experience of discovering art and nature with one another is an opportunity to foster interesting conversations and encourage curiosity.

Families will be invited to sketch portraits of one another at the conclusion of the tour.
