March & April 2019 – Hikes and Activities at Mashomack Preserve  

Please note:  In March, Mashomack trails are open daily 9AM-4PM, and in April the trails stay open until 5PM.  The Preserve is closed on Tuesday.


Our Visitor Center is open:

March: Weekends – 9 to 4PM & Weekdays – Mon, Thurs,& Fri –noon to 4PM

April: Open 9 to 5PM

In celebration of spring, trails will be open ALL DAY from dawn to dusk for self-guided walks.


Become a Bluebird and Tree Swallow Volunteer

Saturday, March 23, 4-5 PM

Ever see a bluebird? How about eggs in a nest, or live baby birds? Get involved in this engaging

monitoring project on New York’s state bird.


Rare, Big and Odd Tree Tour

Saturday, March 30, 1-3 PM

A rare chance to explore the interior areas of Mashomack by truck and hike. We’ll view

different forest types and find tall tulip trees, a huge white oak, a healthy elm tree, and an

American Chestnut.

Spring Ponds and Amorous Amphibians

Listen to the evening chorus of spring peepers as these frogs claim their territory. We’ll look

for masses of eggs from salamanders and toads along the shores of Sanctuary Pond.

Walk the woods under the first full moon of spring and appreciate what the Earth has to offer.


Futuristic Forests: Changing Climate/Changing Trees
