Mashomack Conservation Spotlight

Summer days are flying by and our team has been busy in the field. Seasonal Conservation Stewardship Assistants are helping to monitor Beech Leaf Disease at the preserve, starting with creating an inventory of Mashomack’s beech tree stands. Other staff joined a dozen enthusiastic New York State Master Teachers who gathered at the preserve to learn about forest, marsh and meadow conservation, share lesson plans and bring new ideas back to their classrooms and beyond.

Along the way, we’ll have a chance to stop and explore wildlife on the sand flats and along the marsh grasses on foot. We’ll use hand nets to catch and examine different species before returning them safely back to the water.
