Wrapping Up Our Anniversary Celebrating 45 Years of Conservation
As the year comes to a close, we’d like to thank everyone who celebrated our 45th anniversary year with us on the trails, at the Manor House, in the Visitor Center and out in the community. We hosted over 80 programs throughout the year and worked with many of our local partners to highlight all that we have accomplished here at Mashomack and beyond.

Preserve Happenings
The days are shorter but there is still plenty of time to visit Mashomack—whether on a guided program or a peaceful solo hike through the preserve.

To stay up to date on upcoming events, visit nature.org/nyevents. Most programs require advance registration—sign up by emailing us at MashomackPreserve@tnc.org.

Quogue Live Animal Show
Date: Saturday, November 29th, 1 PM
Have you ever seen a live owl? The Quogue Wildlife Refuge will be at Mashomack on Thanksgiving weekend and present a program featuring live birds of prey. Come learn about their amazing abilities and the threats to their survival. Don’t miss the chance to see these magnificent birds “up close and personal.” Limited capacity, first come first served.

Save the Date: Mashomack Holiday Open House
Date: Saturday, December 13th, 3 – 5 PM
Join us to celebrate the holidays! Mulled cider, eggnog and the good cheer of the season are the perfect complement to the Manor House’s festive decorations. Sing songs, enjoy some sweet and savory treats, and even take part in a holiday nature craft or two.

Prescribed Burn to Take Place at Mashomack
Date: December 1st – December 20th
To restore Mashomack’s natural habitat, we will be conducting a prescribed burn during the December 1st – December 20th timeframe. Prescribed burns are weather dependent and require very specific conditions. Notifications will be circulated as widely as possible ahead of the burn.

Please note that while the preserve will remain open, we ask that visitors and hikers respect any associated trail closures. If you have questions about The Nature Conservancy’s use of prescribed fire, please contact Mashomack Conservation and Stewardship Manager Cody Miller at cody-marie.miller@tnc.org or 631-749-5421.

December Book in the Woods

————
Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost. Illustrated by Susan Jeffers. The opening line “Whose woods these are I think I know” brings back fond memories for many people. This beautifully illustrated version of the famous Robert Frost poem is awaiting you in Mashomack’s winter woods. Come take a self-guided, half-mile walk and read as you go.
