From Governor’s Island to Shelter Island
Fall programming is in full swing at Mashomack, as we welcome schools, community partners, and the public to our preserve. Nine students from Governor’s Island based New York Harbor School joined us for a multi-day stay in early October. They dove into studying coastal issues including living shorelines, oyster habitat and the local marine economy. Students got their hands dirty and feet wet as they met with local shellfish partner Kate Rossi-Snook from Cornell Cooperative Extension and learned about oyster restoration work while exploring the coastal habitats of Mashomack. This amazing field experience served as valuable hands-on experience, as they launched into the final year of their three-year course in Marine Affairs, Policy and Advocacy.

November Book in the Woods

Tidy by Emily GravettPete the badger likes the woods and animals to be neat and tidy at all times. When cleaning up fallen leaves escalates to removing the “messy” forest, his animal friends help to set things right.
