BarTur Award Exhibition at NFAC:
Bringing the World to Greenport
———–
An international exhibition exploring identity, climate, culture, and resilience through the lens of award-winning photography.
————————
North Fork Arts Center (NFAC) is proud to host the inaugural exhibition of The BarTur Photo Award: A Decade of Celebrating the Power of Photography on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:30 PM. This event showcases powerful work from photographers across 23 countries. This exhibition invites our community into a global conversation through images that challenge, connect, and inspire.
———
Founded in 2011 by Amnon and Armon Bar-Tur, the BarTur Photo Award spotlights photography as a tool for social change and storytelling. What began as a collaboration with the University of the Arts London has grown into an international platform recognizing emerging and established photographers who address urgent global issues—from climate change and identity to justice and resilience.
———
The BarTur Photo Award comes to NFAC with a program that encourages reflection, discussion, and a deeper appreciation of visual storytelling, including:
———
Artist Talkback (3–4 PM) featuring:
Kate Bubacz, Head of Visuals at Rest of World
James Wellford, Senior Photo Editor for Global Issues at National Geographic
Amnon Bar-Tur, founder of the BarTur Photo Award

NFAC Executive Director, Tony Spiridakis shared, “This event is more than a photography exhibition—it’s an invitation to connect through visual storytelling that challenges, inspires, and reflects the shared human experience. We’re honored to host this internationally celebrated event right here in Greenport.”
———
Over the years, the BarTur Photo Award has grown into a platform that champions long-form visual storytelling with purpose. Its shift from a competition to a grant-based model, alongside partnerships with organizations like Cortona On The Move and the Visual Storytellers Fund, reflects a deep commitment to supporting photographers tackling complex global issues. This exhibition is a window into that work and a powerful reminder of how art can move, challenge, and bring us together.
