History Uncovered:
A Journalism Challenge for Oysterponds Elementary School Students (grades 3–6)
Come see history come to life!
Oysterponds Elementary School students are invited to visit the 3rd Regiment Reenactment of the Battle of Oysterponds in Poquatuck Park on June 13th. There they can watch, listen, and learn how people lived and fought long ago.
After the event, students can create a journalism project to share what they learned. Email projects to: Journalism.Challenge@ohsny.org by July 17th.
What Can You Make?
- A short interview with a reenactor or historian
- A written news story
- A political cartoon about the event accompanying written work or
- stand alone
- Drawings or sketches of people, clothing, or scenes
- A factual historical story written in your own words
Projects will be judged by real historians and journalists
and selected projects will be featured on Oysterponds Historical Society’s website.
Winners will be announced by August 1st.
