Splash, pour, scrape, swoosh. How can you apply paint in experimental ways to create dynamic emotional effects? Discover how modern artists make their marks with unconventional tools, followed by a painting project. Bring paint supplies and unusual painting tools such as sticks, forks, combs, rollers, sponges and anything else.

Creative License: Out of the Box Art Workshop

What is creativity? How is creativity linked to freedom? Rip up your artwork and create a new one? Use a baster to paint? This live Zoom program highlights the tenets of creative thinking that are exemplified in Pollock and Krasner’s processes and their groundbreaking abstract expressionist art. Following a virtual tour of the Pollock and Krasner studio, participants will create collage-paintings in the spirit of Lee Krasner. Have two sheets of paper, drawing or paint supplies, and glue on hand.

Composition Speaks

Composition is the arrangement of the elements of art in a picture. Discover Pollock’s groundbreaking allover drip painting compositions and creative ways other modern artists arrange the art elements in abstract painting. Joyce will then guide you through exercises to sharpen your understanding of composition. Have on hand scissors and glue, several papers for your pictures and assorted papers to cut and glue.
