Gender and Sexuality in Modern Art

In celebration of Pride month, explore the work of influential queer artists. Joyce Raimondo, Education Coordinator, Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center presents iconic LGBTQ-identifying artists like Andy Warhol, Robert Mapplethorpe, Harmony Hammond, and others who use their art to challenge cultural constructs of sexuality and gender identity. Then, former Stony Brook University Intern Savannah Ithier shares the work of contemporary queer artists who explore gender representation in their art. Following the presentation, create an artwork that celebrates Pride.

Through the Eyes of Modern Art
Wednesday, June 10, 2:00pm – 3:00pm (EDT)
Learn how modern artists such as Van Gogh, Picasso, Magritte, Pollock, Krasner, and others creatively paint the human eye to express emotions, dreams, and unique ways of seeing the world. Then draw or paint eyes to express yourself creatively. Have drawing or paint supplies on hand.

Art and Social Justice

How do artists respond to social injustices? Can art create social change and promote fairness? We will explore issues of social justice using art as a springboard for discussion. Joyce Raimondo will then demonstrate techniques to get your own message across in a poster. SUPPLIES: poster board or large paper, assorted papers to cut and paste, scissors and glue, or drawing and paint.
