How can an artist profit financially from their creative work? The myth of the starving artist is debunked as Joyce Raimondo presents the many ways Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, and other modern artists earned a prosperous living making art. Joyce will also present practical tips for selling and promoting art, and participants are invited to brainstorm ideas for financial prosperity in the arts.

Panel facilitated by Joyce Raimondo, Education Coordinator with Carol Steinberg and Renée Vara
Carol Steinberg is an intellectual property attorney and professor at School of Visual Arts.
Carol will describe why registration is important in enforcing copyrights and provisions that should be included in an artist’s contract with a gallery. Renée Vara is a court expert and artist advocate for creative rights with 30 years as a certified appraiser, advisor, and educator to manage collections for foundations, studios, and private collectors. Renée will present ways artists can manage their studios, art, and consignments along with tips for pricing, insurance, and other business know-how. (This program has been pre-recorded.)

MORE THAN A PRETTY FACE: Pollock, Picasso, and Cubism Workshop
Why would a woman have a blue face or two noses? Discover the meaning behind Picasso’s
portraits and his influence on Pollock. Then create a unique Cubist face that expresses emotion
using cut paper collage. Have supplies on hand: paper for your project, assorted colored
papers to cut, glue and scissors, paint supplies, or draw.
