Now is the perfect time to begin your vegetable garden. This workshop in the barn, led by Renato Stafford of Homegrown Organic Food, will cover everything from creating compost, selecting, and starting seeds, transplanting seedlings, and garden layout, to harvesting and using vegetables in the kitchen. You will plant some seeds to take home to get your garden started for the season!

Extra hands are needed for the Peconic Land Trust’s annual seeding workshop! Meet at the greenhouse and work side by side with Farm Director Layton Guenther to plant a variety of seeds in the growing trays. Learn about the importance of healthy soil and methods for making and using compost. All participants are invited to return on May 20 to help transplant the seedlings into the fields.

Build-A-Bat-Box Workshop

Join us in the barn to build your own bat nesting box. Bats are voracious mosquito and insect eaters, consuming over 1,000 insects every hour! Help attract them to your landscape by building and installing a nesting box early in the season. This step-by-step workshop, led by carpenter Brian Kennedy, includes all materials needed to create your own bat box to take home.
$30.00/kit. Space is limited, prepaid reservations are required, rain or shine.

Working in partnership with Surfrider Foundation Eastern Long Island Chapter, help us remove debris from the Long Island Sound waterfront starting from Iron Pier Beach, located near the Trust’s Granttham and Reeve Preserves. Help ensure a healthy marine environment for wildlife and humans alike. Parking passes available for non-residents of Riverhead. Bring your water, work gloves and enthusiasm!

Enjoy farm events throughout the season, like our annual Plant Sale, midsummer Potluck, Tomato Taste-Off, and many educational events too!
Summer Shares begin in early June through October, with picking days on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
  • Over two hundred “summer share” families come to the Farm to harvest from the fields that include over 500 varieties of vegetables, fruits and flowers planted each year.
