Virtual Art Cafe: Get Inspired!

Artists of all disciplines are invited to participate in our monthly Zoom Art Cafe hosted by Education Coordinator, Joyce Raimondo. Each session begins with a presentation exploring practices that foster a creative life. What inspires you to make art? A trip to a museum, a walk in nature, or even a tragic event. Joyce presents Pollock and Krasner’s inspirations, followed by open sharing by participants.

Experiment with Paint! Hands on Workshop

Spray, pour, and swirl paint! Discover the unconventional techniques that Jackson Pollock and Harold Lehman learned in David Alfonso Siqueiros experimental workshop in New York CIty. ( A classmate of Pollock, Lehman’s work is currently on view at the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center.) Try your hand at various ways you can use liquid paint and industrial materails to create art. Ideas for supplies: liquid paint such as acrylic or house paint, sticks, spray bottles, basters, board or canvas for your art. Or, just observe.

Tribute to Harold Lehman

Guest speakers; Lisa Lehman Trager, Lauren and Lee Trager

Guided by Joyce Raimondo, Education Coordinator, live on Zoom, tour the barn studio and current exhibition displayed in the Pollock-Krasner home; Harold Lehman:The Nineteen Thirties. Acclaimed painter and muralist, Lehman, was a classmate of Pollock’s at Manual Arts High School in Los Angelos. Lehman’s daughter, Lisa Lehman Trager, and grandchildren Lauren and Lee Trager, will share their thoughts on Lehman’s creative legacy and his commitment to social justice through art. Following, Lauren Trager, artist and educator, will present her art.

Art of the Mural

How do artists advocate for social justice through public art? Joyce Raimondo, Education Coordinator, and Lisa Lehman Trager, Lehman’s duaghter, present Harold Lehman’s mural, Man’s Daily Bread, for the Riker’s Island Penitentiary mess hall  — painted under the auspices of the WPA. Following, Joyce presents artists such as Keith Haring, Shepard Fairey, and others who create murals with a cause. Then learn tips for creating a mural and how to communicate with clients as Joyce shares her own experience as a muralist working with thousands of students in schools.

Celebrate Mexican Art

Celebrate the artistic achievements of the great Mexican muralists David Alfaro Siqueiros, Jose Clemente Orozco, and Diego Rivera. Discover how these artists inspired Jackson Pollock in the creation of his groundbreaking abstract expressionist art. Then live on Zoom, tour the barn studio where Pollock made his famous drip paintings and Lee Krasner created her abstract art.

Guided by Joyce Raimondo, Education Coordinator, tour the home and studio of famous abstract artists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner. Then, express your creativity as you make your own drip paintings outdoors on the beautiful grounds. $10 (plus online ticketing fee) per person. Space is limited.

Supplies and museum admission included.
