NYSCA Awards Nearly $70,000 Grants

to Preservation Long Island Programs!

We are happy to share the news that we have received nearly $70,000 in grant awards from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support our mission-based programs and services in 2023!

NYSCA Regrowth and Capacity grants will fund the rehiring of seasonal Museum Educators at our historic house museums and support enhancements to our digital programming.

In addition, the renewal of our NYSCA Support for Organizations grant supports our core historic preservation and advocacy programs that include the Endangered Historic Places Program, Preservation Awards, and free Advisory Support and Technical Services for all Long Islanders!

We are thrilled to announce that we are the recipients of a Dean F. Failey Grant from the Decorative Arts Trust. Funding will support the production of our forthcoming book, Promoting Long Island: The Art of Edward Lange, 1870-1889.

The groundbreaking publication, scheduled for release in 2024, grew out of our Art of Edward Lange Project, a collaborative effort to reexamine the life and art of the prolific painter who lived and worked on Long Island during a time of rapid societal, cultural, and infrastructural transformation.

The Unmarked Burial Site Protection Act is back on the legislative agenda in 2023! Please urge your state legislators to act swiftly to pass the New York State Unmarked Burial Site Protection Act (2023-S630) and send it to the Governor before the legislative session ends in June.

With this legislation, New York will join the forty-seven other states in protecting all human burials from unmitigated disturbance or destruction. Read our Action Alert to learn more about the issue and for information on how to contact your NYS representative.
