HEALING WORK WITHIN COMMUNITY: AESTHETICS AND POETICS OF SURVIVAL

This first Year of Uncertainty Talk will delve into the artistic practices of Raúl Cárdenas Osuna, Founder and Director of Torolab, and YoU Co-Thinker Guadalupe Maravilla. Both artists incorporate community organizing, collective performativity, and sculptural/spatial practices into their work while engaging with distinct forms of responding to trauma and violence. The two presentations will be in Spanish (with Spanish-English interpretation) and will be followed by open conversation and Q&A.

La primera charla de Year of Uncertainty («Año de incertidumbre») profundizará en las prácticas artísticas de Raúl Cárdenas Osuna, fundador y director de Torolab, y Guadalupe Maravilla, YoU Co-pensador. Los dos artistas incluyen en su obra la organización comunitaria, la actuación colectiva y las prácticas escultóricas y espaciales, y se comprometen con distintas formas de respuesta al trauma y a la violencia. Las dos presentaciones tendrán lugar en español (con interpretación español-inglés), y posteriormente tendrá lugar un debate abierto y una sesión de preguntas y respuestas.

Social Practice Queens (SPQ) is a unique degree program and partnership between Queens College CUNY and the Queens Museum, focused on the intersection of art and social justice. Art As Social Action: 10 Years of Social Practice Queens honors this decade-long pedagogical experiment by presenting interdisciplinary projects by nine local and international SPQ alumni. Organized in conjunction with Art As Social Action: 10 Years of Social Practice Queens, this online event will take the form of a sharing circle, featuring artists who make work about grief or remembrance. Current SPQ candidate, Cristina Ferrigno, will lead this conversation based on her activity zine of the same name, using the publication as a starting point for dialogue on communal mourning, mental health and examining bereavement as a spectrum.————————

Organizado junto Arte como acción social: 10 años de Social Practice Queens, este evento onlineadoptará la forma de un círculo de intercambio en el que participarán artistas cuyas obras nos hablan del dolor o del recuerdo. La actual candidata de SPQ, Cristina Ferrigno, coordinará este debate basado en el fanzine de actividades que tiene el mismo nombre. La publicación se tomará como punto de partida de un diálogo sobre el duelo comunitario, la salud mental y el análisis de la pérdida como espectro.
