No Longer Invisible collective banner-making project and documentation

In partnership with the organizers of No Longer Invisible, a multi-racial, multi-faith vigil and gathering initiated in response to recent and ongoing attacks against Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities, the Queens Museum is displaying a collectively hand-painted banner, signs, and video documentation created for the event.

Junto con lxs organizadorxs de No Longer Invisible (“Ya no somos invisibles”), una vigilia y reunión multiconfesional que nace como respuesta a los ataques contra las comunidades de origen asiático e isleñxs del Pacífico (AAPI), el Queens Museum expone una pancarta colectiva pintada a mano, carteles y documentación en vídeo creada para el evento.

BUILDING CULTURE: ARCHITECTURE AS APPARATUS AND SOCIAL PROCESS
Presented in partnership with Unit 25: Building Culture, Spitzer School of Architecture
Through June 13, 2021 

This pedagogical experiment encouraged students to use a range of research techniques to explore how the built environment influences social and economic life. Architectural investigations and drawing are merged with interviews and archives to understand the matrix of institutions, cultural practices, and strategies that have been deployed in Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Corona, and Flushing. The 12 exhibited projects look at the potential of creativity in transforming the lives of Queens residents.

Este experimento pedagógico animaba a lxs estudiantes a utilizar diversas técnicas de investigación para explorar cómo influye el entorno urbano en la vida social y económica. Se combinan investigaciones y bocetos arquitectónicos para comprender de las instituciones, prácticas culturales y estrategias que se han utilizado en Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Corona y Flushing. Los 12 proyectos expuestos se centran en el potencial que tiene la creatividad para transformar la vida de lxs residentes de Queens.
