Paddle the Pond! 

Monday, August 5th, 2 – 3:30 PM 

Explore Old Ice Pond via kayak or canoe during a self-guided paddle, or join up with a QWR Educator to learn about the history, flora and fauna. Observe the various species of freshwater fish, turtles, and birds which live in and around this 100+ year old pond that was originally created for ice harvesting for the Quogue Ice Company. A scavenger hunt/ID chart will be available. Reservations and pre-payment required.

A Taste of Australia: Didgeridoo Workshop

Friday, August 16th, 2 – 4 PM  
G’day mate…come and make your own Didgeridoo, Dot Paint it in the traditional Australian Aboriginal style, then learn how to play it. Australian Chris Pitkin will talk about Australia’s Aboriginal culture and the Didgeridoo – the world’s oldest wind instrument. He’ll show you how to Dot Paint your Didge the traditional way, and then will teach you how to play. This 2 hour workshop starts with a neat powerpoint and includes all materials. Payment due at time of reservation. $30 per participant/Didge.

Full Moon Night Hike 

Thursday, August 15th, 8 – 9:30 PM   


Join us for a nighttime hike through the forest up to North Pond as we look and listen for nocturnal creatures, and enjoy some night vision activities.  The walk will last approximately 1 ½ hours.  Reservations required at least 24 hours prior, as space is limited.  A program for adults and families with children over 8. Meet in the parking lot. $5.00 for members, $10.00 for non-members.

Live Birds of Prey!

Thursday, August 29th, 3 – 4 PM 

Join us in the Nature Center for a live bird of prey presentation. During this program, you will get to meet a variety of native raptors. Learn the amazing adaptations these birds have to be such excellent hunters. Bring a camera as photo opportunities will be available. For adults and families. Not recommended for children under 6. $10.00 per person. Reservations and pre-payment necessary as space is limited.
