Helena Hernmarck: Shadow and Light
Crochet Wave, 2008. Wool, linen, cotton, 41 in. x 41 in.
“I had started to knit and crochet with yarns leftover from each tapestry commission, and I was intrigued to weave the texture from a densely crocheted potholder. In this case I used mostly blue and some green yarns. I wanted to demonstrate how tightly you can crochet with a thick bundle of yarn and a smallish needle so that it creates a very dimensional look. Afterwards people were saying it looked like a wave in the ocean, so I call it Crochet Wave, but the aspect of the crochet stitching is what I was after.” ~ Helena Hernmarck
