8knots was introduced by designer Marcia Bayard on Shelter Island, NY in the summer of 2009. With the Shelter Island seaside as a backdrop, Bayard has developed a well-curated line of custom products for 8knots with a coastal lifestyle in mind.
They offer a distinctive range of products for the shore home dweller, the boater, and beach goer. Classic and unique products of sustainable make and design which are made in collaboration with small producers and artisans. They aim to stock a short list of things that last, are special and make your everyday better – things worth owning and giving.

MATTITUCK MUSHROOMS is a small farm run by artists on Long Island’s North Fork. Their mushrooms benefit from the same pristine glacial melt waters that feed the Laurel Lake (Kettle Hole) Preserve. They grow with the weather, changing their varieties to meet the seasons. They let the Mushroom lead the way, never adding something that is not asked for.

“Mushrooms do a lot of the work themselves,” Holbrooke said. “Slowly and gradually, without direct attention, we started growing more and more.”
[…]
“The real truth to it is that we’re both sculptors. There’s nothing like a mushroom,” she said. “[Discarded materials] we’re collecting for making sculptures also go into making growing boxes for the mushrooms.”
[…]
“By the end of the week, we have nothing left over,” Holbrooke said.
Mattituck Mushrooms may be a young farm by North Fork standards, but it’s certainly made a mark with its colorful and flavorful creations.
