Our free exhibits, “Generations of Shelter Island Impressionists” and “Ingrid McBrian: Shelter Island in Thread and Paint,” showcased the works of prominent Island artists.
As 2026 approaches, we are finalizing plans to celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary and Shelter Island’s own declaration of independence. You can visit several historic Shelter Island homes during our annual House Tour and Reception. You can experience what life was like on the Island during the American Revolution at our new exhibit. You can learn about the Culper Spy Ring and about the Battle of Long Island during our programs. And, you can celebrate in the gardens of the Artemas Ward estate as it bursts into a “Red, White, and Blue” 250th birthday party.
These events and programs are made possible only because of your generosity. Every contribution, no matter the amount, keeps us moving forward with our mission and our promise to the people of Shelter Island to preserve their stories before they are lost.
You can make your donation to the Shelter Island History Museum’s annual fund through our website at

Together, we can make history, and keep it ours.
