Harvesting the Bounty of Long Island

October means harvest season here on the East End. From the vineyards to the apple orchards, food is at the heart of our community in so many ways that we work to honor and support through our work at Slow Food. The Snail of Approval awarded to businesses that incorporate the Slow Food ideals of good, clean and fair food, is one way to honor these food producers. In 2017, we expanded the Snail of Approval Program to recognize East End farms for their superior demonstration of, and adherence to, these values.

Supporting local agriculture not only brings yummy and nutritious food into your kitchen, but also supports the work they are all doing to keep our land and communities healthy and sustainable. We hope you’ll take some time to swing by their farmstands, or sign up for a CSA this fall.
