Students will collect pieces of bark, leaves and twigs from Southampton Art Center’s grounds, which will be used in the workshop where they will be instructed on the craft of art rubbing using graphite, crayon, pastel, and other soft media to capture the natural textures. Film: The Salt of the Earth
Sunday, November 20 @ 6 PM
For the past 40 years the photographer Sebastião Salgado has been traveling throughout the world, in the footsteps of an ever-changing humanity. After witnessing major events of our recent history including international conflicts, starvation and exodus, he is now embarking on the discovery of pristine territories, wild fauna and flora, and of grandiose landscapes. This journey is part of a huge photographic project – a tribute to the planet’s beauty. Sebastião Salgado’s life and work are revealed to us by photographer Wim Wenders and Salgado’s son Juliano, who joined him on his latests travels.

We are delighted to feature art works of Sebastião Salgado in A CELEBRATION OF TREES exhibition. For six years Sebastião Salgado traveled the Brazilian Amazon and photographed the unparalleled beauty of this extraordinary region: the rainforest, the rivers, the mountains, the people who live there.

“This book is dedicated to the Indigenous peoples of Brazil’s Amazon region. It is a celebration of the survival of their cultures, customs, and languages. It is also a tribute to their role as the guardians of the beauty, natural resources, and biodiversity of the planet’s largest rainforest in the face of unrelenting assault by the outside world. We are eternally grateful to them for allowing us to share their lives.” ~ Sebastião Salgado and Lélia Wanick Salgado
