A RARE AND SPECIAL EVENING IN SUPPORT OF
THE JOHN + ALICE COLTRANE HOME
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8 @ 7 PM
Alice and John Coltrane wrote and recorded music in what is now known as the Coltrane Home, located in Dix Hills. Their music recalibrated understandings of what music as an art form could do. John’s A Love Supreme, composed in the attic, will forever be a monument in jazz and an important piece of the American music timeline. Alice also conceived, produced, and recorded numerous albums in the home. This music made history not only for its prowess and artistic integrity, but for its meaning as work by an African American woman.
In collaboration with Hamptons Jazz Fest, SAC will present a special evening of music and discussion centered on the progress and mission of the John and Alice Coltrane Home, featuring an all-star ensemble. Following a panel discussion moderated by Coltrane scholar and music historian Ashley Kahn, saxophonists Ravi Coltrane and Joe Lavano, vocalist Michelle Coltrane, and harpist Brandee Younger will perform.
This free event takes place in our theatre. Masks and proof of vaccination or negative Covid test are required.
