upcoming programs:

As part of our current exhibition, EARTH – Artists as Activists, SAC has collaborated with artists, filmmakers, activists, nonprofit organizations, and more to offer a full schedule of programs designed to educate and inspire us to take action in protecting our planet.

Next week, learn about magical migrating monarchs with our pals at Group for the East End. Tour SAC’s galleries with EARTH curator Amy Kirwin and a selection of artists to learn more about their works on view. Join Shinnecock Indian Nation members and Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman for a panel discussion and screening of the film Conscience Point. Bring butterflies, bees, and birds to your garden at the Natural Garden Fair with various guest speakers, locally-sourced products, a native plant sale, nature books, children’s arts and crafts, and more. Take a guided nature walk at the South Fork Natural History museum.

Contemporary fine artist and tribal member of the Shinnecock Indian Nation Jeremy Dennis uses art to explore indigenous identity, culture, and assimilation. Among his notable projects, “On This Site” uses photography and an interactive online map to showcase culturally significant Native American sites on Long Island. Explorations into Native American history, which is deeply personal to Jeremy, have resulted in impactful, thought-provoking works that keeps this history alive and top of mind. On view as part of SAC’s Storefront Art Project, one of his works can be viewed at 29 Main Street.

adding some greenery:

As SAC’s grounds continue with a beautiful transformation, we’re excited to share our new native plant garden is blooming. Thanks to our friends from Group for the East End, The Perfect Earth Project, Long Island Native Plant Initiative, and Shane Weeks from the Shinnecock Indian Nation, we have installed this garden to attract our native pollinators and help them thrive. We have some beautiful days ahead of us in the Village of Southampton. Our grounds are always open, and we invite you to enjoy this peaceful space, anytime. Look for a video on cultivating your own wildlife-friendly garden on our Facebook page soon…
