Directed by Paul Greengrass, the film tells the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the U.S.-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. Prior to the film will be a panel discussion with Captain Richard Phillips, Michael “Ziggy” Zeigler, and special guests. This special screening and panel, sponsored by Kara Ross, is free to SAC members and veterans.

TECHSPRESSIONISM artist Nina Yankowitz uses art to honor the work of powerful women who came before her.

Her pieces on display at SAC explore the work of female scientist Emmy Noether, who mathematically proved Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, changed quantum physics, and her work is used to resolve black hole theories. But during her life, she did not receive the kinds of recognition and awards that her lesser accomplished male counterparts received.

Noether’s work illustrates our omnipresent cultural divide and the symmetry of nature. Nina explores the fragments of this work that expanded the field in her conversation between two pieces: Then Thru Now.

Don’t miss your last chance to see Nina’s work in person at SAC, now through July 23!
