The Southampton Cultural Center presents “The Majesty and Mystery of the Relationship Between Mental Illness and Artistic and Scientific Genius—Monday’s, July 15, July 22 and July 29, 7 PM — 9 PM.
Roger Keizerstein’s lectures will examine the Traumas and Types of Posttraumatic stress endured by three iconic American Authors: J.D. Salinger, Truman Capote and Maya Angelou.
The different forms of mental illness with which Earnest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, James Joyce, Ezra Pound and Delmore Schwartz were afflicted and how each attempted to cope with their terrible burdens.
And how three Jewish, gay historical figures—Composer Aaron Copland, neurologist and writer Oliver Sacks and gay activist, mathematician and computer engineer, Edith Windsor—overcame all odds to make great contributions to American society and the world at large.

Roger Keizerstein is a pediatric clinical social worker, certified trauma professional, writer and lecturer. His essays and stories have appeared in Newsday, The New York Times, The Memphis Commercial Appeal, Listen Magazine and The Southampton Press. His latest film and book reviews and case studies have appeared in The New Social Worker Magazine, The Midwest Book Review and The Neuropsychotherapist Magazine. He practices up-island in East Setauket and lives nearby in Water Mill.
