Did you know that for half a century, Herb McCarthy’s at Bowden Square was the place to be for Southampton’s exclusive summer crowd.

From Memorial Day 1936 to 1986, locals and summer visitors gathered for what Louise Grunwald called “hot music, cold drinks, and tons of action.” At the center of it all stood Herb McCarthy — the legendary “Man in the White Coat” — presiding over Southampton’s glittering social scene.
