Collections Corner: Statue of Allistair Cooke by Robert Berks

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Accepted just this month by the Collection Committee, is a bust by the renowned Sculptor Robert Berks of Orient. Berks created hundreds of bronze sculptures and monuments across the country including the Albert Einstein Memorial in Washington, D.C. and worked for over 50 years in a converted schoolhouse on our North Fork.
The bust is of Alistair Cooke. Cooke (1908-2004) is probably best remembered by most Americans as the host of PBS Masterpiece Theatre from 1971 to 1992. The program, now known as Masterpiece, has been one of television’s most awarded series. He lived in Southold and was also a writer, journalist and radio broadcaster.
