Southold Students Enjoy “Step Back in History” Week

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our Education of Youth Committee volunteers have wrapped up another Step Back in History Week program, welcoming students to learn about our history.
The weeklong programming teaches students about farm life, transportation, local nautical history, and more. One day, students were invited to explore and sketch at the lighthouse, with very impressive results.
The Education of Youth Committee is comprised of volunteers who play a key role in our mission of sharing education about Southold’s history with the youth in our community. This program ensures interest and knowledge about the community’s storied past proceeds to the next generation. Thank you!
2026 Paid Student Internships Opportunity Closing Soon
Southold Historical Museum is accepting applications for two paid student internships:
the Bainbridge Internship and the Gardiner Young Scholar Program.
Applications are due May 29, 2026.
These hands-on programs offer high school students a behind-the-scenes look at museum work—from caring for local history collections to helping develop programs for the community. Interns build practical skills while working with staff and volunteers.
Each position includes a $1,700 stipend for 100 hours.
Open to students entering grade 10 and up (Bainbridge applicants must live in Southold Town). One application covers both programs.
Selections will be announced by the end of June.
