Winter Lecture Series: “Storms, Shipwrecks, Lifesavers & Lightkeepers”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Join us as Angela Reich from the Fire Island Lighthouse conducts a presentation at the Maple Lane Campus on Thursday, Mar. 27, 2025 at
1:00 PM titled: “Storms, Shipwrecks, Lifesavers & Lightkeepers: The History of the Fire Island Lighthouse.”
Angela Reich is a Fire Island Lighthouse docent and author of Shipwreck of Hopes—a novel inspired by the 1850 wreck of the ship Elizabeth. This historical event played a pivotal role in shaping the early Life Saving Service, led by local residents who patrolled our shores and safeguarded maritime traffic along the nation’s busiest shipping lanes near New York Harbor.
Presented by Southold Historical Museum, the docents at the Nautical Museum at Horton Point Lighthouse, and Fire Island Lighthouse. A book sale will follow the presentation, $20 cash only, with 20% of the proceeds generously donated to Southold Historical Museum.
Admission for all is free. Donations gladly accepted.
Special Thanks to Corinna!
A big thanks to Southold Historical Museum volunteer Corinna, a Bilingual (Spanish/English) Honor Society student from Southold High School! Corinna played a key role in launching the Museum’s first bilingual phone system by translating and recording our new greetings. Thanks to her welcoming message, we invite all Southold community members to call and say hello.
