A Call for Memorabilia of the Southold Summer Colonies

for a summer 2022 exhibit at the Southold Historical Museum

Southold Historical Museum’s exhibition committee is currently developing the 2022 Summer Exhibition around summer colonies.  The Museum encourages the public to broaden and enrich the history of Southold by considering donating or loaning related items.  Donations of historically pertinent items help promote the mission to preserve and educate about local history.  The donated items are preserved by the Museum and can be used in revolving exhibits.  Loans can also assist in explaining the story of our past.

The 2022 summer exhibit at the museum will focus on Southold Summer Colonies: Bexeidon, Goose Bay Estates, Goose Neck Estates, Laughing Waters, Paradise Shores, Paradise Point, Paumonok Cottages, and Reydon Shores.  The Museum is on the lookout for new and exciting items related to the rich history of Southold.  Do you have memorabilia related to the Summer Colonies that you would be able to share with the museum?  Common objects of interest include summer clothing & hats, household items (aluminum ice tea glasses), sports equipment (boating to tennis), board games, books, photographs, colony advertisements, floor plans, deeds, and more.

If you have an item(s) you would like to loan or donate to the museum, please email info@southoldhistorical.org or call the office 631-765-5500.
