Please join us for the opening of the Nautical Museum at Horton Point Lighthouse on May 28 from 11:30 to 4:00 when our newest exhibit, “Undercover: Stories of Rum Running in Southold” will be revealed.
—–
The exhibit offers an inside look at some of the unexpected sites around town that were linked to the history of rum running during Prohibition; and it relays actual historical accounts from residents who recalled the era.
—–
The museum will be open weekends through mid-September. We invite you to come see the exhibit, explore the artifacts and relics that detail the town’s rich maritime history, and enjoy the spectacular views and scenic grounds.
—–
And the 58-ft tall lighthouse tower will be open again for tours, after being closed for the past two years!
—–
Admission is $5 or $10 for families and includes entrance to the museum, the special exhibit and tower tour.
—–
Note: Parking is available in the Southold Park District’s lot for a $5 fee (if not a Park District resident). Street parking is by Southold Town Permit only.
—–
Interested in volunteering to meet and greet visitors at the museum, act as an informal guide or attend the tower? Contact us at: Info@SoutholdHistorical.org or 631-765-5500

Southold Historical Museum is pleased to again offer the Bainbridge Internship Program for 2022.
—–
This internship is a terrific opportunity for a local student to gain a hands-on understanding of the many operations that help Southold Historical Museum preserve and share Southold’s history for our community and future generations.
—–
The internship requires the completion of 100 hours of service to the Museum and is accompanied by a $1,500 stipend. Potential candidates must be entering grade 10, 11 or 12 and live in Southold Town. The internship honors late Southold Historical Museum supporter, Mildred Bainbridge.
—–
Deadline to apply is June 3.
—–
The application and other details are posted on the Museum’s website.
—–
Note: We are hoping to offer an additional internship through the Gardiner Young Scholar program this year as well!
