Southold Winterfest was a Wonderful Success!

We were pleased to welcome so many visitors to the Maple Lane Complex this past weekend during Southold Winterfest 2023! It was a beautiful day and the hamlet was filled with people enjoying the festivities.
————
Children participated in a fun craft in the Bay View Schoolhouse, and our docents were on hand to give tours of the historic buildings. Thanks to all our volunteers at the Complex and in both our shops! We were also happy to welcome Southold Indian Museum, which offered a special exhibit in the Reichert Family Barn. We’re looking forward to next year’s festivities!

If you missed the recent “Krupski Farming” lecture by Mr. Al Krupski, you can now view it on our YouTube channel. The presentation was part of our 2023 “Farming Through the Years” Winter Lecture Series by NOFO Real Estate.
———
Mr. Krupski, currently a Suffolk County Legislator, shared the interesting history of the Krupski family farming legacy in Southold, NY, as well as some of his personal experiences as a fourth generation farmer who continues the family tradition.

Website Highlight: This item in our collection is a c. 1927 Mergenthaler Linotype Machine Model 8 on display in our Print Shop. While computers today do most printing rather quickly, this machine was a great innovation in its day, saving time and money in the publishing process.
——-
Called a “linotype”, it produced whole “lines of type” that were cast from molten metal by simply typing into the keyboard. These lines of type were then inked and turned into printed pages on the press.
